Hi guys,
I have recently bought an ML-L3 remote release form my D40. Cant seem to get it to work. I have found an option in the menu thats allows you to time how long the camera will accept infra commands from the remote, options of 2mins, 5, mins etc.

But my remote doesnt seem to do anything. Just wondering is there another setting anywhere thats needs to be turned on before the remote will work.

Cheers

Dom

Domenic,

On the D50 there is a timer button on the camera, you have to press it three times to use the remote.

1x) Sets timer
2x) Sets timer using remote
3x) Sets for just using remote
4x) Turns timer/remote functions off

The D40 most likely has the same type of function, someone with a D40 will chime in.

It's a two part process with the D40
depress the menu button then first;

Go to "custom settings" (pencil icon)
then choose "shooting mode" option #4
and choose the option you need.
1. single frame
2. continuous
3. 10s self-timer
4. 2s delayed remote
5. quick-response remote

The second part is to set the duration for
either the "self-timer" or the "remote control"

Go to "custom settings" (pencil icon)
then choose "self-timer" mode option #15

allows you to set self-timer duration

Go to "custom settings" (pencil icon)
then choose "remote on duration" mode option #15

allows you to set remote on duration

happy shooting. and hope to see some of your pics in
the " Some D40 Pics" thread ;)

What a lot of messing about!!..

Those IR remote things are useless!!

I'm an angler that goes fishing most of the time on my own, and one day i
caught a 33 pound Carp... got to have a picture of that, i thought!

Got the nikon set up ready for the shot... now you want to try and lift
a 33lb Carp & press that dam remote at the same time!!! not only
that, even if you manage to get a decent shot, it looks stupid, there you
are pointing something at the camera:( i hate em...

Why oh why, dont they make the shutter button like they used to, so you
can use the good old air release??
That way ive got both hands to hold the fish, and all i have to do is neel
on the release bulb!! Easy!!:D

X - wow! That seems like it is burried, guess you get used to it.
My metering and focus modes are menu accessible, I prefer button clutter.

I think you need to read my thread again, unless your not familiar with the
air release system?
I will enlighten you.... one end of the air release screws into(or used to)
the shutter button, fixed to 20ft or more tube, the other end of the tube
is a bulb, once the bulb is pressed, air would be forced down the tube
and push a piston & needle into your shutter button, and a shot would be
taken!
So, theres no fiddling around with anything!!!.... you just screw in the air
release, position the bulb under my knee, hold up the carp, neel on the
bulb & bingo! shot taken!!

You want to try one sometime, you wont find it funny, but very usefull!!

There is the option to put the remote on delayed release so that you've got 2 seconds to hide the remote or throw it somewhere.
