hey i searched for stuff about this on dcr but i didnt find anything. i didnt know if you guys knew about this or not. if not then you d40 guys are going to love this. doesnt have the same finish as the D40 but it works just the same.

its not one of those cheapo ones on ebay either its made by ansmann called the N40. check it out. heres a picture. i believe its like 150-200 bucks i dont remember. not vertical shutter release though but better than nothing. holds 2 nikon batteries. said to take 2000-5000 pictures

Interesting, well you can get a lot more shots out of a charge,
but no shutter release. Well can't have it all I guess.

That thing looks pretty sweet. After shooting 2 days of basketball my wrist was begging me for a battery grip  How come I dont see a shutter button on it?

no vertical shutter release though. that would be a bit of a pain in the ass. i;m not a big fan of battery grips anyway.

vertical shutter release, whats that mean? :)

a shutter release button is actually located on the battery grip itself so when you shoot the camera in portrait mode there is shutter button effectively on the top of the camera making it much much easier to shoot rather than have your hands all contorted trying to fire the shutter on the camera.

alot of people like using a battery grip for that reason alone.

when i do a portrait shoot that may last an hour or so i mount the camera on a tripod and use the remote actually. lol

i've never had occasion to have to shoot in portrait mode handheld for that long but i guess you;re right, if you had to do that often a battery grip would definately be worth it. even more reason to get one with a vertical release though. i know if i ever got one there's no way i'd consider it unless it had one.
