I went with my GF to visit the George Bush Presidential Library and did not bring my gear. She did have an old Sony P&S from Thomas Edison times.
I used it to capture this quick portrait.

Up front: At ISO 80 noise is still a problem.
The image doesn't look sharp or even decent at 100% either.
Something is better than nothing, though!

Sure could have brought a collapsible reflector!

I think we're all spoiled by the fact that 3.2mp cameras took pictures that still looked sharp at 100%, and without anywhere near the amount of noise we see in today's cameras. I guess camera manufacturers pretty much expect you to never print things at 100%, and that's true of the majority of people. But why more megapixels if they aren't usable at 100%? I blame marketing.

I go back and look at a lot of my S200, S3, and S5 shots and want to delete them because they have so much noise... And I thought they were nice pictures back then.

Nice....... ummm, what was this thread about? I got distracted. ;):D

Seriously though, I rarely look at my pre DSLR pictures anymore. I'm going to go have a peek. :)

I seriously wish Canon made a large CMOS P&S like the Sony R1.
The lens would not have to be interchangeable either, shoot, a 28mm f/2 fixed focal would be fine!
So long as the camera is small!
