We don't have a ton of wildlife here either, but this was taken in my front yard about 100yds. away on my D80 70-300mm zoomed allthe way in on them. I have a little camera shake as I was shooting off hand and my 11mo. old was hanging on my leg.....

Hi All,

Good idea Bynx, to start a new wildlife thread! :)

Obijuan, I love the iguana (?), beautiful colours and clarity! :D

Blusky, that's a great shot hand-held at full zoom with the little-one hanging on! Amazing.

Here is my initial contribution, a couple of possums (aka opossums), shot hand-held at night, so unfortunately the photo is a little hand-shake compromised and the red-eye reduction tool in my camera's software (Finepix Viewer) wasn't able to reduce the red-eye in the possums :(..., all in all not the best shot, but the best I could manage at the time... :o

I wasn't sure what wildlife page to use, so I chose the newer post. Nice shots above. I ditto what Benjamin said, and good job Benjamin with hard to photograph subjects in the wild.
I got to shoot prairie dogs today on a wildlife refuge. Canon Xti and 70-300mm is lens.

Hi Spookonthe8ball

That's an amazing shot of the prairie dog, great composition, exposure, focus etc, its all good!:D

Thanks for the compliment.

I couldn't find any of the older wildlife threads...:o

(PS: I enjoyed reading about the origin of your username in the "Explain the origin of your username"-type thread, great story! :))

Here are some photos of the wildlife in Centennial Park, Sydney.
All shot hand-held with a Fuji S5700/S700 in Sports mode, on a bright spring afternoon, without the benefit of any filters (either a UV or CPL would've helped provide better results probably...)

First, one of the biggest fish (unfortunately a carp) I've ever seen in a duck pond!
30723

Second, a tortoise (there were two in the pond that I could see, this is the closest shot that I got, in a sequence of shots on the day)
30724

Third, a duck swimming, I like the colour of the water and the duck's reflection in it. :)
30725

Fourth, wading water-bird walking the lily-pads. :D

Hi All

BIGALL, that's a great shot of the squirrel! Very nice work! :D
Gil ab ca, how close were you to the fox? He looks a little ragged...
Thanks Elphie, I took about 350 shots that day, and the shot selection posted earlier were some of my favourites from the day. :)

For Elphie (and perhaps Gil's fox, in spirit at least...;)), some more Green duck shots:

Benjamin: The fox walked up to me as I sat in my truck. The picture is cropped, but the distance was only about 5 metres, and he was scruffy! If you right click and view image you will see what I uploaded.

Hi All

Ditto Spook's comments!
Gil that is an awesome elk, great shots! :D
Gravytrain, excellent deer and duck shots too!

Here are my first few fruit-bat (aka flying-fox) shots from Hyde Park.
The light was fading rapidly from about half an hour before sunset onwards, 10x zoom wasn't enough to get close enough to the flight-path of the bats exiting the Botanic Gardens, where they live, on their flight south to look for food and while they were feeding in the trees in Hyde Park, the trees were in deep shadow and they kept moving about. ...

Bats in flight (from a distance...):
32880
Exif: Aperture priority, F4.5, 1/680sec, ISO400, 63.3mm, +1EV, Pattern metering, Sharpness: Hard

Bat feeding:
32881
Exif: Shutter priority, 1/400sec, F3.5, ISO400, 63.3mm, +2EV, Pattern metering, Sharpness: Hard
(which still resulted in a very under-exposed picture, so in post-processing I upped the brightness to maximum for the above result, of course to have improved the in-camera result I should've slowed the shutter further, maybe 1/200sec and upped the ISO to the max, but I was concerned about subject movement & too much image noise, must try again with the tripod on another night)

Oops, I didn't see this thread so I made my own over in Canon. This would be a more appropriate place though.

See wildlife here:

And, a new one:

Vio1, that's one of the cutest squirrels I've seen, good shot. :)

A bunch of a-holes...:D
very cute ;), good shot as always Lukas! :)

Vio1, beautiful duck, although it might've been an idea to crop the foot out of the top of frame, beautiful colour and clarity. :)

Striking image, raven', and a good capture with the A710IS (when I was considering buying my first digicam' some of the compact options were the A570IS/A710IS, and amongst the ultrazooms I was considering the S5IS, as well as the Fuji ultrazooms S700/S6000/S9100, in the end I chose the S700/S5700, but all of them are mighty fine cameras, it just depends what you want to do with them and what you shoot the most as to which is best for a particular person).

Thought I'd post these here although he's not exactly wild but he did run around a lot giving me trouble getting these shots. There are a lot of blurred splodges I need to delete. This is my daughters pet rabbit when he stopped still long enough for my slow reactions.

And finally the closest I managed to get. I liked the reflection of the house & garden in his eye in this one. All the shots were straight out of the camera save for a bit of minor cropping of the edges.

Hi 'fazer & Stacey

'fazer, I really liked all the pic's in your last series, each for different reasons, I think they're all good, both technically and artistically. Congratulations! :)

Stacey, ditto the other comments above, that is a stunning shot of the hawk! :D

Wow thanks for your great comments everyone. I am humbled..
to answer your questions, I posted on the "Face the Photographer" this morning.. That was painful.. I am much more comfortable BEHIND the camera..
That hawk photo was taken with my Canon digital (EOS Rebel XT) and a Tokina lens (100-400) that I was later told by a pro.."that lens was not made to work on a digital"... fooled me, I thought it worked great!
Again thank you all for your comments and I will be posting more photos. When I figure this forum out a little better, I will add my info to the bottom like you all have.. lol

Hi Nic08,

Glad you like them. :)
Of course you can save them if you want, but really, they really aren't that good..., they're fuzzy and grainy and there are much better wildlife photos in both current wildlife threads!
