I have a Canon 30D that I am trying to take photos of my childs soccer games. I have been using a Sigma 70-200mm 2.8 lense with Sigma 2X Converter at TV setting at 1000 with 800 ISO. This works fine during games until the sun starts going down. l have increased ISO to 1600 but pictures start blurring and are very grainy. I use a monopod during games also. Any advise for taking photos once the suns starts going down. Lights at the stadium are high school low grade and don't help much.

Take the 2x and put on a 1.4x to avoid ISO 1600.
ISO 1600 would not be grainy unless you are underexposing then bringing the exposure back in post processing.
Why would pictures be more blurring by increasing sensitivity to ISO 1600?
Try lowering the shooting speed to 1/500 to let twice as much light in.
You'll still stop plenty of action.
You could also invest in a 300 f/2.8L IS.
