My daughter will 12 soon and has asked for a digital camera. I would like to stay with a fuji. I have extra XD cards and I like the fact that it uses AA.
I think it needs to be small. I would like it to be at least a 5 MP. An ok zoom. Not sure about those smaller cameras with a huge zoom....how easy it is to steady? She is fairly good with my old digital but do get some blurred shots, not sure if it is her or the very old digital
I would like to stay around or even under $200.
Thanks

Three cameras meet your initial requirements. Have you read the specs on these?

I didn't look at the ones with such a high MP. Is there a reason to have a high MP in a small camera? is it over kill? I really like the first one and the price is great......Thanks

Nowadays you are unlikely to find a new camera under 8MP. The only reason for high MP is camera makers try (and successfully) con the consumers that the larger MP = better image quality. It's not true.

Yes, it's overkill, and no, there's not much you can do about it. :)

I would take a look at the Z series as well. I think they are a better camera than the A series and they are quite a bit smaller too. My aunt has one and she is a total p&s type person and her Z5 gives her pretty decent shots. The Z5 can be had for $159. over at buydig.com, which is where I buy my cameras from.
Word to the wise though, Black Friday is coming up at the end of the month so you might want to wait for that. Usually there are pretty nice savings to be had online.

AHHHh yes I am a big black Friday shopper.....so I will be looking for a camera then. I am still unsure. I am now thinking maybe an olympus all weather one would be wise choice. I had the film version and it took nice pictures, easy to use....there is also a pentex that are waterproof up to 3 feet. Which would have been nice to have at Niagara falls.............
So I am still looking....of course now she is asking for an ipod....

A900 sounds like a nice camera for a 12yearold.:)

Personally, I'd stick with the Fuji. both the f series and the z series are pretty good and usually under $200 (at least in my area).
I have friends who went for the Pentex (it was about $50 cheaper than a comparable Fuji) and wound up switching. It seems, the Pentex wouldn't focus if you were less than 6-8 feet away from the object. And the macro didn't work very well. At first I thought it was the user, but since this was reported by several people I know I'm beginning to think it was the camera.
