Let me stat by saying this is my first post here, I am slowly converting to digital. I have shot and owned many nikon products but this cool pix 5200 is my first digi and I love it.
Okay here is my question, I was looking at replacement batteries on ebay and many people are offering non nikon, cheap replacements. Has anybody had any experiance with these, pros cons, what not?
Thanks,
Saulgoode

Saul, You might want to take this to the battery forum. I have purchased 3rd party EN-EL1's and they worked fine.

Check out Sterling Technology for batteries, 1/4 the price, last longer can't complain about service or quality.

I just bought two of the SterlingTek batteries for my Coolpix 4800 ... $12.00 each. These batteries are rated at 1100 mAh as opposed to the 700 rating for the standard battery. They both charged fine. Now lets see how they work in the real world.
In the past, I have had bad luck with 3rd party suppliers. Have been using only Sony Info Lithium with awesome results. Time will tell. But at $12 bux each... who can complain?

I have been using a pair of ELN1's for a year with no problems.

I have just purchased a Coolpix 5400 (with the $200 rebate - an awesome deal). I am looking for a couple of back up batteries (EN-EL1). While searching and reading I also noticed that there are tons of non-OEMs available. Are any brands better than others? I notice that Maxell, Sakar, Sunpak, and Duracell make ones compatible with the EN-EL1 . Does anyone have any recommendations in terms of cost/life ratio? What if the MAH rating is higher than the Nikon original EN-EL1? Would one with 1100 MAH be too much for the Nikon charger?

The higher Mah rating doesn't bother my Nikon or Non-Oem Charger. This usually means a longer battery life.If you are shopping Ebay or the Net watch the USPS 1ST class shipping charges. I found a couple of stores where the shipping was $10.00 for a battery. RIPOFF!! I posted the note about Sterling Tek because they sell a decent battery from a location in the US instead of China and I have never had an issue with the serveral batteries and chargers I have bought from them for Sony and Nikon cameras.

Yes, I can vouch for that. ELN1s are good.
