View Full Version : Monopods: revisited
How many use monopods?
With IS enabled cameras, a monopod gives at least 1, many times 2 more stops than IS alone.
Braced against something solid: observation railing, car door or bungee corded to a stop sign, many times you don't need IS to get sharp photos.
Whereas tripods are a no-no in many places, a monopod gets in even the more strict venues: museums for example.
A quality monopod also allows you to compose and shoot excellent macros and/or low-light images.
Many monopods weigh just over 12 oz., a little over a pound with a limited action "ballhead". With such a lightweight rig, you can leave the 'pod attached to your camera.
Manfrotto quality monopods double as walking sticks/defense weapons.

Yes. They can also be identified as offensive weapons in some backward countries. Britain for example can get very funky about things.

My tripod's center column is a telescoping monopod. It locks at about 5", so with the ball head and camera, it puts it at 5' 8" which is fine for me.
I use it frequently. I wish I could stick a Fiesol CF monopod as my center column, though. ;)

That's funny. You think Britain is a backwards country because they are concerned about the defense of their people, while they have muslims slowly invading their country? I'd be getting pretty paranoid and personal weapons too.

Yes. They're being invaded slowly by people with all kinds of un-british and anti-british views. Meanwhile the ability to resist is being removed.

Sad isn't it?
Kinda like the frog in the boiling kettle-he doesn't know it's killing him.
