since last friday i have my new camera S6500fd (AKA S6000fd) i also bought Toshiba 2GB M XD card.
my system is windows XP SP2 , i installed the finepix software from the CD, along with the Fuji USB driver and PTP driver (but it doesn't appear in the system).

and when i connect my camera with a USB cable and turn it on, Windows says 'new hardware.... PTP usb camera' and is looking for the drivers, but rather for *.inf file which Fuji doesn't provide, only self extracting PTP driver. I tried to install it several times, some progress bar is starting and it disappears in a second, no any 'finish' message.

I was searching the net and found out that this might be caused by real media player, or some usb camera drivers also installed, so i uninstalled all other drivers for my webcam, and palmtop, and also removed real media player. But i also read that Service Pack 2 also causes problems with PTP protocol, but the thing is i cannot uninstall it, because it was already built in, i don't have such option:(

The other problem, i cant read that XD card in my 'Hama 9in1' card reader either:( i tried to format it in the camera but with no results. i'll try to get another card reader only with one slot for XD cards, it would work better.

And check this i installed that finepix software and drivers on some other computer with windows XP SP1 and PTP transfer works!

So i guess i will have to reinstall my whole system to Windows XP SP1 but i thought i may ask first if someone else already experienced such problems and maybe have some simpler solution or an advice how to make it working?

why does this camera only has PTP transfer? why it doesn't show up as a pendrive like other cameras? thanks for any advices.

update: i found a temporary workaround , i easily download the pictures via PTP in linux ubuntu.
