hi dose anyone no how many photos a 40gb storage divice will hold ?

That depends on the size of the file from your camera. On a 2 megapixel camera it'll hold thousands. If your camera shoots in 12 megapixel RAW, it won't be so many. SO we need some information about the size of images you'll be loading. :)

Shooting RAW off the top of my head it should hald a couple thousand assuming the RAW files were all around 5mb.

thanks for the info id be shooting off a nikon d80 . im going on safari and i no that storage will be a a problem there and just wondered if this would do.

Do you already own the drive? If not whats your budget and exactly how portable (size and weight) do you need it to be?

nuts - 40g should be plenty of storage for a week or two of safari. If not, even the most primitive places usually offer some sort of CD or DVD burning service these days. Have fun! Where are you headed by the way?

a 2gb SD card holds 163 RAW images on my D80. so i'm guessing that 40gb will hold around 3200.
