I don't really know where to put this, as it's not really a conventional discussion. It was just an oddity that I found.

I got a bit bored earlier and started dissecting our (Very) old Sony Handycam Video 8 (As proclaims the faded text on the side). I decided I'd take a look at the LCD (As I assumed it was), chich was hidden away inside an adjustable angle tube. When I got to it, I was a tad confused at the large protrusion that was attached to the back of it. Closer examination unearthed a bit of small, thin glass tubing revealed near the far end. That instantly brought CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) to mind. And sure enough, with a bit of research online into the part number, it's a CRT. I was just wondering if lots of old digital video cameras had CRT's - it just took me by surprise a bit really. I suppose they had to before LCD displays came into their own.

CRTs were universal until about 7 years ago. My wife's video camera has a b/w CRT monitor in the eyepiece.
