FZ8 Problem ... or not?

I bought an FZ8 for practice, planning to move to dSLR in spring. I was quite impressed with the range of manual options, however I got a problem with it. I shot a burning candle for about 5 mins and after that I saw a purple line emanating from every bright sourcelight. It does not appear on the pictures and the quality is formidable never the less. Any ideas? Is my sensor "burned"?

It's common to see lines emanating from bright lights, on the LCD screen preview. If they don't show up in the photos then there's nothing to worry about.
