I've been noticing quite a few "banned" users and heated discussions lately. For the sake of us all, could we give Jeff a break and lay off the name calling and debates?
It's one thing to help somebody select a lens. Make your one or two posts about that, and step off of it, but it's another things entirely to go into a tirade of a system. Again, make your brief post stating your opinion and leave at that. Don't open the door for a rebuttal, and if the other person tries to instigate a fight, the best thing is simply not to respond. Ignore it.
What I've liked about this forum is that it's been straddling in between the point and shoot and DSLR crowds, giving it a much more laid back feel from the usual places like DPR, POTN, FM, and others, but these recent discussions spoil that atmosphere and make it increasingly more like the other forums now. This needs to stop.
We are all photographers and stick to the photography itself (http://www.dcresource.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34083). This is supposed to be a hobby (or a living for some), and if we aren't having fun, then there's no enjoyment to be had in this at all.

As much as it would be a calm and picture perfect world, when new equipment hits the streets, Jon ... especially with three major manufacturers involved? Don't you think you are expecting just a little ... too much? You know the "Flying Monkeys" are on the way! You get torn on which way to go!
Sure, civility ... much appreciated ... but also is good discourse between those seriously interested in what's coming down the road, on the road and has used the road. Anyone who reads these rather fiesty exchanges between various people really gets an education that they can make really decent decisions with. Some arguments are all wet ... and you know what that means. But, their true beauty is that they are nearly real-time and easy to read, instead trying to be listened to ... where accents and jargon can be meaningless to some. That's certainly worth the "price of participation" ... and while it may not be a field of poppies outside the Gates of the Emerald City ...

it shows that people really care about their photography, their equipment ... and most of all ... participating. Anyone can run and hide. But, why not just follow the yellow-brick road to the system of your dreams. Half the fun is using that system to the best of your abilities and continually improving both it and yourself, along the way. ;)

I have been away for a few months and read this post which really made me feel sad. This site was a great place for photography discussion. Sure, some debates got a bit heated, but nothing too serious. I hope this site doesn't turn into anything like those other sites out there. Let's clean it up eh? Thanks for the post REX I agree with you. Don, why did you have to take a thread about trying to stop arguements and turn it into an arguement. Oops, I just did the same.........Sorry Don I take it back! LOL, just winding you up mate!

Rhys has stopped talking about double A batteries in every post so when will Don drop the in-body IS stuff? :p
Rex, I agree and thank you for bringing further light to this subject.
The key is to be strong and ignore.
Trolls/Bullies/Sony Fanboys....uhhh j/k once ignored will have little impact on this site.
Jeff, if you're reading, good job keeping it clean.

I'm still thinking of AA batteries :P
Did you know 4 out of every 5 Russian prime ministers are powered by AA batteries?

Long story short:
User A caused a raucous with extreme viewpoints and questionable logic.
User B followed.
Coldy and others, myself included, addressed the A&B viewpoints.
Viewpoints became more dichotomous and heated. Coldy turned on his usual 'charm', but was not more 'charming' than either User A [original instigator] and B.
Coldy and User B were banned as a result and User A was not.
Days later, User A tried to stir up more trouble. At the behest of many folks on here, User A put dpreview like comments and flamebait aside. [for now?]
I thought Coldy was back since then? Perhaps keeping a low profile?

Do you think coldie took too much heat for this? I can't say because I was not here, but it seems like coldie was just protecting the integrity of this site, which I hope is the reason. Anyways, like I said, I did not witness what was said, but have always enjoyed this site for the lack of pig headed, bias opinions and have always got a lot of great feedback. I really hope this continues to stay off the path so many other sites have followed and continues to be as user friendly and non intimidating as possible.

Nah. He was the main instigator.
Long story short:
User A caused a raucous with extreme viewpoints and questionable logic. When you say "User A" are you referring to E.G. Jr.? Some of those arguments led to a real close shave! :D:D:D
Sorry...how could I be expected to resist? Must...keep....it...clean...must...
Jon (Rex), all-in-all this is one of the nicest places on the web...so it gets a little hot sometimes...we're human (well, some of aren't...I could name names, but...see there I go again!). :D:D:D
