I'm not good enough not to use good lenses! :p
Those are some great images. I wonder how much time the guy spends on PP?

wow
some really nice shots
but i would still replace the kit :p
other lenses can be used in even more conditions which = more scenarios for photos

I use better (not the best, but adequate for most stuff) lenses because I don't want to fight with marginal stuff. I've been there and done that. It can be a real headache. Doable, obviously, but still that nasty four-letter word ...
W - O - R - K !
I'd rather play, thank you :D
Enjoy your photography ... imagine, a science out of the kit lens. I just don't have the time! LOL

Completely agree with you on this. If your shooting moving objects in low light or you want beautiful bokeh then you need a wide aperature lens. But if your shooting stationary objects (landscapes, etc) then the kit lens is much more capable than many think.
I don't know how many times I've heard someone trashing the kit lens - look at what this guy is capable of creating with it!
This just goes to show that good images are much more about the photographer than the lens.

I had always heard: "The Lens makes the man" ... or something like that. :D
he practically lives off his filters
he loves his cokin filters.

no argument here :) those are some great shots, panos and post-processing. so it's also more about the photographer cum graphic artist, :p.
but... (there is always a but, huh? :D) i'll say just based on the images up on that site that in some of the ones with trees, the leaves look mushy, to me. so i'm not sure if that's the lens' fault or not. then again, these images are resized so it's hard to say how the prints really are.

Stopped down that much and added filters, the kit lens would perform like most other higher end lenses.
His ability to shoot with creative composition and excellent post work make the pictures great.

I've said all along that the 18-55 kit lens is a very capable lens. Limitations of course, but still can produce some very nice shots.

all you need is to spend a lil money on filters, and know how to work photoshop really
i've seen some great images from people that have compacts and superzooms aswell. so the same srt of title could read "so you think you need a DSLR ?"
as always its the person behind the camera that makes the biggest difference.

Hmm.... so does that mean that my 350D should upgrade its coldrain?

michaelB, thanks for the link, it's really fantastic what this guy can do with a kit lens.
HOWEVER if you look at EXIF data you notice he mostly stays at F11 or narrower and often uses a tripoid...mind you i am not a big fun of tripoid each time there's a nice composition. that’s why probably some people also want better lens for taking some shots handheld. :p
