A couple weeks ago I shot over 700 pics at a wedding. Camera worked great all day long. I was too tired to look at the pics when I got home so I went to bed and the next morning I grabbed the 30D to download the pictures. NO POWER. NOTHING. OK, dead batteries. I charged the batteries and still NOTHING. Tested the batteries. They are fine. Took the camera in for repair under warranty. Camera is less than a year old. Its 6 weeks later and I just got it back today. The repair order states:

Part # CG2-1818-000 PCB ASS'Y DC/DC replaced
Part # CH9-1094-000 PCB ASS'Y, FLASH replaced.

There is no other explanation on the repair order. I have searched high and low for a parts list. Anyone know what these parts are??. I must tell you that I take very very good care of this camera. I have a lot of money in this camera and its accessories, well over $4000. I treat it with kid gloves. Never abuse it. Did I get a lemon?? What is it that broke and why?? I have now lost confidance in this camera. I think I took quite a risk shooting a wedding without a back-up since it broke the very next day.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well that sucks.

I've got a wedding to shoot in a few weeks (Rebel XT) with no back up so your story is not very comforting! *Sigh* I can just imagine the poor little bugger giving up during the "I dos".

Yeah, Nick ... looks like a 20D might be a nifty solution for the right price, huh?

LOL ... get ready, get set ...

Which is where you stand up and say "Excuse me, my camera objects to your marriage. There will be no record of this ever happening. I suggest you postpone this ceremony and reconsider".

Anything electronical just CAN break, no matter what make it is from. Most 30D's will not break for years to come... and some may break within a week.
Not different with any Nikon D40, D200, Pentax K10D, Canon 350D or what not.

The PCB part of the parts numbers makes it seem like just the electronics got fried by whatever reason. One the flash circuitry, the other probably the entire main board.

This just can happen, the reason it happened is not all taht important.
Now you understand why professional photographers always have one or more back up bodies available... That has been that way in the film SLR days, and that will be that way in future too.

Oh god I would not have the guts. Let's hope this doesn't happen to me. :(

Thanks for the replies folks. I must say that I would never again shoot a wedding without a backup body. I would just hate to ruin someones special day. Imagine having to tell the happy couple that your camera broke during the "I do's." Very risky. I love the 30D, but I just dont trust it right now. Perhaps Ill look at the 40D and use this 30 as a backup.
