View Full Version : New website
I've hacked out the beginnings of a new website for my photo business.
What do you think so far?
About (http://www.sageworld.co.uk/new%20sagephotoworld/About.html)
Prices (http://www.sageworld.co.uk/new%20sagephotoworld/Prices.html)
Contact (http://www.sageworld.co.uk/new%20sagephotoworld/Contact.html)
Portfolio (http://www.sageworld.co.uk/new%20sagephotoworld/Portfolio.html)
I still need to put photos on the Portfolio page and still need to link all the pages. I'm happy with the design although I might add some fancy wallpaper later.
I think you should rather find some nice free website template and put your text and pictures in it!

Rhys - I believe you asked this some time ago as well? I sent an email about that one.
It is still too unfinished to have us make any meaningful comments. Sorry, but asking advice on a "hacked out beginning" is sort of pointless...
Sort of like us reading three sentences and asking what we think of the book.
Sorry to sound harse but I personalized some comments last time and this one seems not very different.

Ok Try the latest incarnation. It's not complete but how's this?

Ah this is much better than the old layout. To quote the other poster, much less like a "word document" haha.
Oh and by the way- on the "prices" page it says "We $75 per hour" which sounds to me like a typo. :)
Thanks for the heads up on that one. My site is now live at sagephotoworld.com. All I need now is to work on the portfolio images a bit. Those present are really just placemarkers.

Rhys- Much better than the first shot.
The problem with your copy is that it is just a list of facts. You need to sell on emotion.
I think the part about price will work against you. I would only refer to price as reasonable not that you have lower overhead.

Lots of typos/misspellings. For example, it's "bar mitzva" and "surveillance". Also, if you're advertising to American customers, you should think about using American spelling since some people might not realize that British spellings are not simply errors.
Ok. Spellings are now corrected.
Here, in SC, it's seen as high-class to use British spellings :D
Are the photos in the album big enough?
i'm not sure if i'm getting all of the page loading up. but from what i see, i don;t like the website layout or style. i think it looks too clinical, boring and basic. looks more like a website for selling calculators and widgets rather than selling art and dreams.
being affordable is one thing but looking cheap is another. imho the idea is to give the impression that you're super expensive and then surprising them at how cost effective you really are.

You might want to take advantage of a service like smugmug.com - the options for the "pro" service level would look much more professional.
It looks like you used a free template for the theme- which is fine, but a little lacking in creativity. Since it is for a photo business I would want a photo banner or something on the top instead of silhouettes of buildings. The color theme is also ugly, in my opinion.
I thought the pictures in the portfolio were hyperlinked to larger versions- they aren't big enough the way they are now. A couple of them don't look very professional in the first place, for example- the wedding pictures all are obviously taken with a poorly executed hot shoe or built in flash, and you can definitely tell. I'm not saying you're a bad photographer by any means, but if it were me I would put some better examples in the portfolio.

I'm limited with templates to those that'll work with Website Baker. My wife was wowed by the new look.
I agree I'm not that struck on the colours but then I don't have a clue about what looks good. I just take good photos.
