My Panasonic FX07 was stolen on vacation and I am in search for a new camera. I am interested in the Panasonic DMC FX33 or the Canon SD870is. Both are awesome cameras with face detection, image stabilization, high megapixels and wide lenses, but I am not a camera pro and am not sure which one I should get. I loved the scenic pics from my Panasonic FX07, but some of the pics were a little noisy for me. People's faces also seemed a bit harsh and blotchy with that camera. Other than that, it was a great camera, which is why I like the FX33. I have heard the Canon SD870is is amazing, but it is also a bit bigger.
Obviously, I need some help so please let me know which one is superior. I appreciate your opinions and thanks!!:D

Obviously the Canon SD series is superior in IQ, and since your quibbles were about IQ, you should check out the 870IS.

Thanks for your feedback, but do you happen to know/would you mind explaining the main differences between the Panasonic FX33 and the Canon SD 870is? I hear that Canon is a superior brand, but it is nice that the Panasonic has a Leica lens. Also, the image stabilization on my Panasonic FX07 was rediculously good and I wonder if the Canon's is the same. Also, do you know if Canon is planning on making a slimmer or lighter version of the SD870is?
Thanks very much!

The reason the Canon cameras offer better IQ is because of the Sony sensors they use and the knowledge Canon has with the image processing. Panasonic uses very noisy sensors, and very obtrusive noise reduction and in-camera sharpening to produce artifact rich images.
So... purely on an IQ basis, Canon cameras performs better.

IS seems to be implemented fairly similarly across all brands, or at least none are touted as better then any other.
I don't like the 870 because they got rid of the optical viewfinder, I went for an SD800 instead last week. I haven't seen any evidence that Canon is building anything smaller then the current Elph models.
