Budget
* What budget have you allocated for buying this camera? Please be as specific as possible.
Around $500
Size
* What size camera are you looking for? Or does size not matter at all to you?
Doesn't really matter
Features
How many megapixels will suffice for you?
Unsure, would like to be able to do max 8x10 prints and have good photos for a computer or TV slide show.
* What optical zoom will you need? (None, Standard = 3x-4x, Ultrazoom = 10x-12x, Other - Specify)
Unsure here but for the application a wide to normal zoom would be best. I'm thinking around 18mm or under to 55mm zoom or so. Will be used to take photos of rooms for before and after pics for an interior designor. I'm thinking from my past SLR experience. I havn't been into photography for awhile. My last camera was a Nikon N90s, really wanted an F5 but it was too expensive at the time.
* How important is “image quality” to you? (Rate using a scale of 1-10)
Best for the price range so 10
Do you care for manual controls?
For the intended user no but they would be nice. I can always teach him how to use it.
General Usage
* What will you generally use the camera for?
Like I mentioned earlier, will be used to photograph rooms for before and after slide shows for an interior designer. May also do print outs to make a before and after book for the non tech people and for people who would like it.
* Will you be making big prints of your photos or not?
I would say max 8x10, mostly I see half sheet size pics like 4x6 or so but not 100%
Will you be shooting a lot of indoor photos or low light photos?
For its main purpose yes and yes
Will you be shooting sports and/or action photos?
No
Miscellaneous
This is a gift for my uncle and I think a dSLR would be best but that means I have to teach him how to use it. I'm just worried that a p&s won't perform for the indoor wide angle shots. We want to stay kinda cheap, I'm saying cheap as I know how much this stuff costs, to my sister who is splitting it with me $500 is alot. But I want to get him somthing that will get him good looking photos. I also see these being able to showcase his work so professional looking photos would be best.
Are there particular brands you like or hate?
I like Nikon, I've used there equipment in the past and have always found it to be top notch quality. I have also used Cannon and Pentax, not digital only film for all 3, and have had no problems with either. No brands I really hate but I've tried to stay with those 3 so far.
Are there particular models you already have in mind?
No
(If applicable) Do you need any of the following special features? (Wide Angle, Image Stabilization, Weatherproof, Hotshoe, Rotating LCD)
Wide Angle, Hotshoe would be nice but not required.

Thanks in advance for the help. After I get it next I'll be here getting tips on shooting room shots as thats one area I've never done. I liked doing the action/sports photography.
