Camera : Canon A540 with CF of 1GB

In Shooting mode the message is "Memory card full". In Picture mode the
message is "No Image". Do not know what is the problem. If I use the
Format option it shows that 283MB used out of 488MB but no images are
shown on camera. I have not re-formatted the memory card. Can you suggest
what could be the issue ?
Thanks

PS: Noticed that there was one similar post in Jan 2007 but nobody replied to it. Hope someone has an answer now....

Corrupted file allocation table? Files other than jpegs are occupying the card? Incomplete formatting? Card pulled out of the camera while being written on to. Defective card? There could be tons of reasons. Why don't you format it? Also, the Canon A540 takes SD/MMC cards and not CF.

If you haven't yet copied the images on the card, look at one of the file recovery tools in the memory card forum. As nap said, there are too many possible causes to debug remotely.

Have you by any chance maybe copied pictures or other kinds of files FROM your computer TO the card? In that case, it's possible the camera cannot open them. It has happened to me, when I have copied pictures to the card, that the camera for some reason cannot open them.

If you have a card reader, you can check if you have files or pictures on the card already and maybe copy those to the computer. Then you can format the card in your camera and see if that helps.

Good luck! :)
