I was wondering if G6 upgrade (hopefully with DIGIC II) would come within the next 5 months? Does anyone have an estimate? Or maybe an estimate when Canon might announce it's plans for a G6 Upgrade?

The current G6 is great but a new DIGIC II processor would definitely speed things up and improve the movie mode as well. A manual focus ring would be nice as well (its about time it got one). Maybe a bit better low-light autofocusing?

Anyways, I was just wondering if anyone had a clue when an upgrade would arrive / be announced?

Just found a picture of a camera that claims to be a G7? Doesn't look like a G7 though. URL to picture:

... i would be very surprised if this was the real design for the g7 :p

it's not consistent with any previous g camera, and looks like it would be a lot less comfortable to hold and operate. i think someone was just having fun with photoshop.

The picture is a fake, sure. :D

I think Canon G7 should be introduced in April or Sep 2005.

Yah I should've known it was a fake. I wonder if Canon says something about G6 at PMA 2005.

The upgrade to the G6 is already available. It's called the 20D. ;)

Not gonna happen. You won't see a G6 replacement anytime soon in my (somewhat informed) opinion.

Jeff,

Doesn't Canon introduce a new G series every year?

Yes. And I assume there will be a G7 later this year... but not anytime soon.

A firmware to speed it up would be nice, now i have got used to mine (just over 5500 shots taken) it feels very slow indeed :(

I remember posting a mesage on this thread but it seems to have been deleted!

Strange cause there was no bad language?

All I said was, its not getting any better with more pixels on the same ccd sensor blah blah blah, and hoping canon would upgrade the size of the ccd to complement the megapixels.. or somewhere along those lines.

people shoud be informed about the truth!

Jeff, do you know about an update to the S1 is? I am in the market and would buy that camera except for the 3 megapixel limit.

I found some release dates of the G-Series Cameras (except G1). G1 release date is a guess based upon Steve's Digicam first look of the camera.

G1 - 09/01/2000 (?)
G2 - 08/01/2001........About 11 months gap.
G3 - 10/15/2002........About 14 months gap.
G5 - 06/15/2003........About 8 months gap (wow just 8 months).
G6 - 08/31/2004........About 14 months gap.

Based upon that data, the G7 would probably be 8 to 11 months far (thats between (04/2005 to 07/2005)). Worst case could be 14 months (which is about 10/2005). Again just a guess.
