Hi

Which out of the two cameras would you recommend / purchase ?

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8 or the TZ3 ?

I can pick up a FZ8 for £185 or a TZ3 for £225.

Which camera has the better image quality/features ? and are they any good at night time / low light shots ?

I know the TZ3 is a nice point and shoot and is a nice compact size but is the FZ8 a superior camera (and its size is quite compact anyway)

At present I have a Sony Cybershot DSC P73 which is really poor at low light/ night time shots so I take it these two cameras above will be a vast improvement?

No, these panasonics suck at low light shots. Your old Sont probably does better or is comparable.

The newer Sony models most of the time do better, but for the best low light shots with compact digital cameras look at the Fuji models that have a SuperCCD, like the S6000fd, F31fd and such.

So you are saying that a Fuji s700 (which is also a super zoom) will offer better pictures especially at night than the two Panasonic models ?

I don't think the S700 / S5700 has the Super CCD, just the standard CCD, which isn't as good for noise at high ISO sensitivity used for low light shots. Coldrain was refering to the Fuji Super CCD sensor as used in the S6000 / S6500 or F31, which would be significantly better in low light than the Panasonic or Sony, especially with moving subjects.
