So I stupidly checked my Panasonic FZ-20 at the airport because it was too large to fit in my carry-on. Unfortunately, I have a big camera bag, and was bringing all my equipment for this particular trip-- memory cards, spare batteries, chargers; everything but the telephoto attachment and my tripod. It was stolen. All of it. By the airport itself (my TSA-approved lock was lovingly replaced on the bag).

I haven't been keeping up with new cameras, having been so happy with my Lumix.

And now I feel like I'm missing a leg. When I bought the 20 two years ago, it was top of the line, and one of the two best not-quite SLRs out there (along with the Canon). So what holds those spots right now, and does anyone know a way to get them fast and cheap?

P.S. don't EVER check a camera flying with Northwest.

I'd say Pan FZ50 and Fuji S6000 are the leading bridge cameras now.

I feel your pain. My Panasonic FX07 was stolen on an airplane a few weeks ago. It was brand new and my memory card with 200 pictures from France are gone for good. I called and wrote the airlines, but nothing! I'm comparing the Panasonic FX33 vs the Canon SD870is at the moment, so if you hear anything about those, please let me know. Good luck to you!

I think the Canon S3/S5 deserve a look as well, especially if most of your shooting is outside. I think the Canon has better image quality in good light, the Fuji in low light.
