For a while now I have been waiting for Sony to come out with a new touchscreen, compact digital camera. I could have bought the DSC-N2, but it was fairly expensive when it hit the shelves (plus I heard some things that halted me from buying it). Now two new cameras, the DSC-T200 and T70, are expected to ship sometime this month. The cameras meet most of my expectations, and they are relatively cheap for the capabilites they harness, but I have a question about one of their differences: the LCDs. Would the T70's LCD be more crisp, since it is 3" and consists of 230k pixels, than the T200's LCD, which is 3.5" and contains the exact same amount of pixels? I am not sure how screen resolution works, but it seems to me that maybe the T70 has better LCD quality. Does anyone know? I don't think it would be worth buying the T200 for $100 more just for better optical zoom; I would, however, consider purchasing the T200 if I knew that its 0.5" longer touchscreen would be of equal quality as the T70's. Any help would be very appreciated. Thanks.

The t200 should be at your local bestbuy store. i'm thinking about buying one tomorrow. just go in there and check it out. as for what you were saying, i do believe that the resolution on the t70 would look better on the LCD than the t200. i also read that the t200 menu is hard to read because of the poor resolution. but i'll look at it closely before i make the purchase. it's either the sony cybershot t200 or the canon powershot sd870

I didn't know that the t200 was going to come out today. I was surprised to see it on bestbuy.com because I thought it was going to come out later this month. After observing it, can you tell me if you think it is worth the buy? If it really has poor resolution and a fuzzy menu then I don't think I will purchase it . . .

went in to bestbuy and they won't be getting it in till next thursday, but the bestbuy in the smaller town an hour from here as it already, WTF?! so i think i will have to wait till next thursday to buy it at my local bestbuy. it's alright, i don't need a camera till this weekend anyways, so i'm not gonna drive an hour just to buy it. i'll let you know about it next weekend.

Yes, the two cameras have the same pixel count. The 3" screen on the T70 will have a sharper image on screen, as there are more pixels per square inch. However, with only half and inch in difference, the average person will most likely not notice that big of a difference. Also, I think the extra 2x zoom capability is worth the extra money. So as for myself, I am ordering the t200. Hope this helps.

I went to Best Buy today and they had a T200 on display. Surprisingly its screen was very nice, and the touch screen was very easy to use (you have to get used to it though). I ended up purchasing it--the black one's the only one they had--because it held up to its end of the deal. I was shocked they even had it on display, because Sony's site doesn't ship them to pre-orderers until around the 24th. Here are some pictures I took today:

those pictures look nice. i'm torn between the sony t200 and the canon powershot sd870. i've always had canon cameras and they seem to have the best quality of pictures from the other brands, and i know that the sony's flash isn't as good as the canon's flash when taken in dark places like night clubs and bars. would you be so kind as to take a picture in a dark room so i can see how the flash would look?

thanks.

i plan to buy one of those camera this friday.

well, i just bought the t200. the guy at best buy explain to me that the t200 has a HD shooting mode that you can view, but if you want to edit, you have to use a special program due to it's file extension. he told me that Photoshop CS3 will be able to edit the pictures. he also told me that because of the HD mode, it has a better quality than the canon sd870, and that's what convinced me to buy it. i'll play with the camera once i get it home :)

I just received my t200 yesterday, and have taken over 100 shots already. I am very impressed with the low light shots - the flash is very strong. I do not have any complaints about the camera yet. It truly is a great camera! :)

I am thinking about purchasing the T200, however, I want to know if it is compatible with the CSS-HD1 HD and charging cradle. According to Sony's website, the T200 is not on the list of compatible cameras. This could just be a mistake on their part because the T100 is compatible. It looks like the T200 and T100 have the same connections, plus they are both T series cameras.

Yes, the T200 is compatible with the CSS-HD1 station and cables, and uses the included remote.
