Hi!
I recently stumbled on your web site looking for reviews and tips on digital cameras and just found this forum. It seems an excellent place to ask for a camera suggestion, so here I go.
Currently I have a Kodak EasyShare DX4530 that my father gave me when he renewed it. I find this one too bulky and slow, painfully slow. And the photos do not have high quality.
Answering the form:
Budget
* What budget have you allocated for buying this camera? Please be as specific as possible.
150-200 euros, but if it is really worth it I may go as up as 250. (I'm not counting extra batteries nor memory cards in this price.)
Size
* What size camera are you looking for? Or does size not matter at all to you?
A compact one. Preferably small (slim), but not at the expense of quality.
Features
How many megapixels will suffice for you?
4 probably. This seems to be enough to cover the resolution of large flat panels, and I don't intend to print large photos.
* What optical zoom will you need? (None, Standard = 3x-4x, Ultrazoom = 10x-12x, Other - Specify)
Standard.
* How important is “image quality” to you? (Rate using a scale of 1-10)
9-10.
Do you care for manual controls?
Not really, but they'd be nice. I am a novice in the photography world and having them available may be interesting to start learning the basics.
General Usage
* What will you generally use the camera for?
Take photos of friends' meetings (be it indoors or outdoors), excursions (which means landscapes), or tourism photos.
* Will you be making big prints of your photos or not?
Not planned.
Will you be shooting a lot of indoor photos or low light photos?
Indoor photos surely (and probably many), but I predict few of them will be low light.
Will you be shooting sports and/or action photos?
No.
Miscellaneous
Are there particular brands you like or hate?
I don't know much about this yet, but the Canon's seem fairly complete and good quality. The Nikon Coolpixes and Casio Exilims look good, but I don't know anything about them. Feel free to recommend any brand, though.
Are there particular models you already have in mind?
I've already been suggested the Canon A570IS or the Fuji F30/40. Even though the former does not seem to be "slim", it feels very complete and nice. The Fuji ones seem to be over the budget, while that Canon model seems to fit it. Other proposals accepted!
(If applicable) Do you need any of the following special features? (Wide Angle, Image Stabilization, Weatherproof, Hotshoe, Rotating LCD)
Image Stabilization. I have lots of horrible photos with my current camera due to slight shaking.
Thank you!
