I am involved in an artifact processing operation where I need to be able to track up to 2,000 images a day (primarily coins). I have written a database front end that will pull streamed images from a web cam, but their resolution is not as good as we require.

I have seen it mentioned that I need to use a camera that is twain enabled.
The maximum resolution that I need is 3.1 megapixels.
FPS is not important. Resolution is.
It can be USB or firewire.

There are a number of real high end labrotory grade systems available, but we are trying to go with something off the shelf and as cheap as possible.

Any suggestions?
