Do you like a swivel LCD? Which size do you prefer? The A720 is smaller and lighter.

The A720 has red eye fix and IS, but the A640 has a bigger sensor.

The A640 (or the A630, which is probably a better all around camera) has a bigger sensor which means better image quality and less noise, the fold out LCD, 4 batteries for longer life and quicker flash recharge, the older Digic-II chip, no IS.

Why aren't you looking at the A650? It adds more MP, IS, newer logic chip, and a better screen. It is more expensive.

The A720 has a smaller sensor, is a smaller camera, takes 2 AA batters so shorter battery life (but not by much), has more zoom (then the A640, but not the A650), fewer MP (not really an issue for your usage).

Have you picked up the cameras and played with them? Which feels better in your hands?

my brother in law has the a640,yes it is bigger but iv read nothing but good reviews about it,and i thought that since canon were launching the new range i could get a640 at a good price.i didnt really want to spend more than £200.i just dont know.will the newer logic chip be really noticeable in my pics?? or am i better of using the older chip and using the CDHK to get better pics.i really appreciate all the help im getting.

First, please use capital letters and put spaces between your sentences. It's very difficult to read your posts.

The A640 and A630 will produce better images then the A720 due to their bigger sensor, but if you are just taking holiday shots, landscapes and people shots that you are not going to print out I doubt you'd notice the difference. In those cases, the smaller size, bigger zoom, and IS of the 720 would win out in my mind.
