SD800 IS audible noises normal?

I just got an SD800 IS. When changing certain settings, seemingly macro-related, like switching to macro modes, but also using the DISP button to turn the LCD on or off, it makes a kind of loud clicking noise. It also makes a kind of zappy noise when half-pressing the shutter.

I'm just wondering if anybody can tell me if this is normal or not! I got it mail order from Dell, so it's not easy to return it to try another one.

It's normal to hear the motor that's moving the lenses so your camera can focus. Which is what half pressing the shutter button does, and also what putting it in macro mode does.

Yeah, I know it should make some noise. It just seems unusually louder and noisier than other cameras I've used in the past.

Go to a store that carries the SD800 and try one there. It's hard to know what you are hearing.
