Lets see what you can do with high ISO. I'd like to see a little from all manufacturers. Prove your system is up to the task.

Those look really nice. I'd also like to see some 100% crops.

Also, ISO 3200 / 6400 / 12800 / 25600, anyone?

And where are the crescent-moonlit non-flash Tae-Kwan-Do shots that your above-$1200 dSLR + lens combos must be capable of? :D

Sorry, haven't had the need to use above 1600 yet. Here's one at that ISO.

Nice work! I would post some shots higher then ISO1600 but my camera can't do it! I'll see if I can find some 100% crops. I don't tend to keep them with me.;)

Had to use ISO 3200 last night to get some shots of the family's new cavalier spaniel pups. Terrible lighting for my kit lens, of course, and I had to go all out with ISO to get around 1/100 sec shutter to freeze their movement. Needless to say it wasn't my idea:rolleyes:. But I'm glad I have 3200 to use at a pinch, and it was fine for 4x6 prints.

1/80 sec., f/5.3, 42mm, ISO 3200

Unfortunately, this photo has sharpening applied without noise reduction (augh!), as I was in a hurry, and I didn't save the originals. Wise fellow that I am. So the grain is worse than it needs to be. I'll try to get some better 3200 shots sometime soon, plus mayhap post a 1600 or two. 100% crop:

High ISO has been a challenge to me since I take a lot of shots indoors. I will bookmark this thread. :)

hmm.............. the camera? That's from my PnS Fuji FinePix F30. :o No post processing just resize.
I will contribute more whenever I finally get my D80.

A test photo for the old 20D....
I loved that the high ISO noise was mostly color noise, and could be removed easily in PS.

So what are the chances that the new Nikon D3's ISO 25600 shots will look at least as spectacular as the ISO 1600 shots in this thread?
Also, that combined with an F/1.4 or faster lens, and it seems that one ought to be able to do some nice moonlit action photography, if I'm figuring things right...

Given that ISO 25600 is not in the "normal" range of the D3's settings, but is a "HI" option, it probably won't look anywhere near as good as the ISO 1600 shots from present cameras. It will probably look like ISO 3200, which is a "HI" option. That's Nikon's way of saying "you can use this, but you're probably not going to like it, so don't come crying to us".

I'd image though that 3200 is going to look really good. Notice that even high-end expensive pieces like these don't even have a regular ISO 50-100 range anymore.

Who will be the first to personally shoot Nikon D3's ISO 25600 and post a few in here? I'm very curious too. SB600 or SB800 will be redundant; I guess. Seriously now... I will be more than happy with a camera than can shoot decent pix at ISO3200.

I don't think you can see much difference in internet posting sizes or small prints. However, for pixel creepers {myself included (sometimes)} any difference will be visible.

Nick, Rooz, thanks. High-ISO hasn't been Oly's forté, but it can be done. I think I sent these through Neatimage as well.

yes thats true, Olys can do it, but you really need to know what you are doing sometimes, it doesnt come as easily. The nMOS variants seem better equipped, particularly when shooting daylight, where high iso is to support a fast shutter.
