I'd like to batch rename a large quantity of images from my camera that are residing on my HD.
I basically want to add a date & time stamp to the beginning of the filename, from the EXIF info. For example, something like "IMG_1938.jpg" might become "2007-05-17_22;32;57--IMG_1938.jpg". I chose semicolons for separating the time fields cause colons are not allowed, and hyphens for the date fields because slashes are prohibited.
IrfanView does have this (batch rename) feature, but only one folder at a time. I would like to select several folders throughout my HDs, batch rename all the files, and have it save them to the original folders. When I tested it with a few files, for example "C:\xxxxx\20070523\Copy of Canon S1IS\... then selected a few folders in there with pics in them (and clicking the "Include Subdirectories" option didn't do what I thought it would do), it copied ALL the renames to the (...)\Copy of Canon S1IS folder, and left the originals completely intact (without renaming them.)
What program should I download that will do this? I have thousands, if not tens of thousands, of photos laying around the HD that I'd like to rename with the date/time stamp from the exif info. (Oh, and for photos that originally came from a camera, but for which the EXIF has been stripped, then I'd use the file creation date & time.)
(I also have some hundreds or thousands or so that are on CD / DVD to free up space on the HD. I'll plan to copy those back to the HD sometime, rename them, then, if necessary, burn them to other DVDs.)
