Since I'm also considering upgrading my SLR I thought I would ask about those as well. I'm considering switching to Fuji. I want to know what the positives and negatives are. concerns are 1) I want natural light indoors/without flash 2) focusing ease 3)other use outdoors landscape, macro, etc...

Upgrading from what SLR?

1. Both the Fuji S5 pro and new Canon EOS 40D are very good in high ISO low noise performance.

2. Focussing ease? What do you mean with that? The EOS 40D will have the edge in autofocus speed/accuracy. But both just require you to half press the shutter button. The ESO 40D will have the edge in manual focussing, when you exchange the focus screen for the super precision manual focus screen.

3. The EOS 40D and S5 Pro both will be fine outdoors with landscapes, the EOS 40D having the wide angle edge with the Canon EF-S 10-22mm f3.5-4.5 USM. The EOS 40D also has an edge in some macro areas, like the fast AF-ing 180mm f3.5 L macro from Canon, and the 65mm f2.8 1-5x macro lens from Canon. The EOS 40D also offers live view, so you can see on the 3" LCD englarged what you are focussing on manually.

The Canon EOS 40D (10mp) is also cheaper. But the Fuji S5 pro (6mp) is a very good camera too.

Upgrading from a dinosaur Canon d30 which I bought shortly before the 10d was released(unfortunately). Anyway... I have kids and I don't have the luxury of time that it takes to focus it in natural or low light with it.(that's why I say "ease" of focus). I've used the Fuji s2 in the past for work. The more affordable the better.

I'm probably in a more consumer grade category as far as pricing is concerned those are a little out of reach for me.

The Fuji S2 Pro is not a very good DSLR for today's standards. Slow, cumbersome and not all that accurate colour wise, as far as I remember. The S3 Pro was bigt step up (still slow).

A canon XT, XTi, 20D all would be a big step up from both the EOS D30 and the S2 Pro, speed wise and IQ wise.
The 20D would be closest in feel to what you are used to.
