I need help in deciding which of the 2 cameras stated above would be the best one. I take a lot of action shots and even more in low to no ambient light. I already have a "fairly" ancient camera; the Sony DSC-F50 that I have used for years. It is so ancient Sony does not even make it anymore! I have had fun with that camera, bit I think it is time for me to get a camera that is several steps above that one.

I have read several reviews both here and at dpreview.com. Both are what I am looking for, but I can't decide between the two. I like the versalitity of the Canon, but not the extra price of the lenses (well maybe I could get some lenses, but how to store them); and I like the all-in-one Sony, but not the relatively low power of the digital zoom.

Can anyone give me a "professional" insite on what would be the better or even the best one

Thanks in advance,
Jim

Well, looking at the other threads - and the RESOUNDING silence of my thread - I have decided to go with the Digital Rebel.

Still ANY comments on the aforementioned cameras would be apreciated.

Anyone, anyone, Beuler?, anyone?

Anyone, anyone, Beuler?, anyone? :eek:I think your Sony experience has enamored you with the brand name, and between the two you mentioned, the Canon will be a lot "lighter on its feet," and will give you better results. The 828 is a heavy, fixed-lens camera with a limited zoom range, and with a record of CA problems and noise at the higher ISOs. I'd bet the dRebel will give you much more satisfaction with your shots, albeit at a higher price, with added zoom lenses.
