Budget

I would prefer under $300, but willing to go up to 400 if worth it.

Size

Ultra compact.

Features

At least 5.

* What optical zoom will you need?

Standard is fine.

* How important is “image quality” to you?

8

Do you care for manual controls?

It would be nice to have the option, but mostly I want something that can take decent photos quickly.

General Usage

* What will you generally use the camera for?

Basically I want a camera I can carry around with me easily in my purse. I will use it for various things such as vacations, hiking, concerts, pictures of friends. I know I will be sacrificing some quality with a compact camera that has few manual controls, but I still can't decide what the best is of that class.

* Will you be making big prints of your photos or not?

Probably not.

Will you be shooting a lot of indoor photos or low light photos?

Yes.

Will you be shooting sports and/or action photos?

Probably not much.

Miscellaneous

One thing that is important to me is a good video mode with decent sound. I'm not expecting it to be great, but I would like something small I can take into concerts with me.

Are there particular brands you like or hate?

I'm having trouble deciding between Sony and Canon. I've heard that Sony has good video mode, but I'm unsure about Canon. Also Sony's seem to have better battery life, which is important to me, but Canon's seem to get good reviews on quality not to mention they are usually cheaper. Also people tend to say Sony's are too fragile, which is a concern for me. I'm basically open to any brand though.

Are there particular models you already have in mind?

I've been seriously considering the Canon Powershot SD1000, and Sony Cybershot W55 or other W or T series. Also I've seen that you have recommended the Fuji Finepix F30 quite often. It has great battery life and apparently takes good low light photos, but I haven't heard much about the video mode and am unsure about the size. Also I've seen some places where I can get the Fuji Z5 relatively cheap. I like the size of it, but it's hard to find reviews on it, so I was wondering what you thought...

(If applicable) Do you need any of the following special features? (Wide Angle, Image Stabilization, Weatherproof, Hotshoe, Rotating LCD)

Image Stabilization would be nice, but not a must. I would like a camera that is not too terribly fragile, since I will be carrying it around in my purse.
