I got my SD300 for Christmas, and am thrilled with it. However, the 16mb card they gave me simply will not be enough!

I went to amazon.co.uk to check out the price of a high capacity, high speed SD card, and I must say that the prices seem very reasonable. I was seconds away from ordering the Bytestor Hi-Speed SD Card 256MB, when I read this review which put me off all together:

After a week of light use this card started giving me memory card errors in my Canon Ixus 40 (Canon SD300). I managed to retrieve the photos I'd taken on the card on to my Mac, and all seemed well after re-formatting the card in the camera. However more errors occurred again a day later and I could no longer trust it to work. The camera works fine with the supplied Canon 16MB card so it's not the camera at fault. Am about to try a Bytestor 512MB High Speed card and I hope this proves to be trouble-free. If not then there may be a compatibility problem or just poor quality control at play here.

Anyone else have this problem? - Is it just a one off defective card, or can I expect to experience the same problems if I get one?

why would the guy plan to buy another bytester card, if the first one failed on him like that?

Anyways, I too now have an SD300, and was wondering about memory cards. The review said that it can take advantage of high speed memory cards, but how high speed? Sandisk has regular, Ultra II, and Extrme III. Which high speed card would the camera be able to take the most advantage of?

I recently ordered the 256MB Ultra II from buy.com for $40 (i'm still waiting for the card! Their tracking system is crap and i'm getting nervous), but I've heard people saying that the 512MB card is just as fast as the higher speed cards. Is this true? Help.

Thanks

hi there, we just got our sd300 2 days ago. We purchased the 'regular' Sandisk 512mb memory (p/n# SDSDB-512-A10) and were able to fill the entire card in the 640x480 30fps mode. Have tried it twice with no hiccups. Hope that helps, FYI.
BTW, does anyone know what the 'speed' of the regular Sandisk card is?
Cheers.

I tried taking a movie clip of about 30 seconds on a 1 Gig "regular" Sandisk card with the SD300 at the factory default settings and it performed beautifully. I had previously read somewhere that it was advisable to get a high performace Sandisk Extreeme card, but maybe the regular cards meet the requirements. At any rate I can confirm to a small extent what has already been posted.

P.S. The 1 Gig Sandisk SD cards are on sale at Best Buy for $59 after a $20 rebate. The sale lasts until today *I believe.* I purchased a second one yesterday.

I've got the regular Sandisk 512M card and it worked fine with high speed video and burst mode. No need for an Ultra-II with the SD300.

information, could you try taking some longer videos with your regular sandisk 1 gb card? im pretty sure that im going to get a canon sd300 and i was looking around for memory cards to get. I was wondering if the regular 1 gb sandisk was fast enough to record videos at 640x480 at 30 fps for a long period of time. thanks a lot

If the 512 Sandisk card is any indication, then the card speed is fine for this camera. You can fill the card at 640x480 @ 30fps.

would this be any differeny for the sd200? Since the regular sandisk 512 worked with no hiccups in video mode on the sd300, is it safe to assume the same would be true for my SD200?

Nope, not needed. The regular Sandisk works just fine. I just shot a 4 minute movie at 640x480 and 30 fps and it worked fine.

Hrmm, in 320x240 60fps it looks like it is limited to 1 minute on this card. I could have sworn I'd done a longer video before. I just verified, the fast frame rate video is limited to 1 minute.

But burst mode at Superfine appears unlimited, I just shot 50 shots with no problems.

Im currently on the hunt for the right memory card as well for my sd200. Ive done alot of research and I would like to get the sandisk b/c of its reputation, however just not sure if its going to do what Im hopeing. My second choice is that Kingmax 512mb with a 60x speed, for only $45 from newegg.com . Basically the same price as the sandisk regular, however i am kind of concerned because people say its flimsy, and might be only just as fast as the sandisk. Oh well, gonna have to roll the dice eventually.
