Hi all-

I am using a 256MB PNY SD card (not high speed) and when I take videos at 640 x 480 it goes for about 10-20 seconds before saying "BUSY". I can fill up my memory card in the 320 x240 setting.

My question is why is the filming stopping after 15 seconds or so in the higher resolution setting, and on the lower setting I am getting great results? I am hoping that if I get a high speed sd card it will solve this problem and I would be able to take 640 x 480 for longer durations. If anyone here has the camera or is familiar with these settings, please let me know if it is a memory issue, camera issue or user issue!

If anyone here can offer some suggestions, it would be greatly apprectiated :o

Video requires the camera to send a large amount of info to the memory card. It does this by filling up it's internal memory or cache (which is very fast) and writing to the card from that (which is slower).

If your memory card doesn't have a fast enough write speed the camera then once you fill up the cache the camera has to stop capturing new images until it flushes the cache to the memory card. 20 seconds is about all the cache can hold.

With a fast memory card (like the Ultra-II or some other manufacturers basic cards) the camera can flush the cache so quickly that it never has to stop capturing new images. With the Ultra-II speed card you will be able to keep shooting video at the high quality video modes until your memory card is full. For a 1Gig card that's about 8 minutes of highest quality video for this camera.
