Hey guys, first post and it's about my f20. Nice little camera but i think i paid too much for it. Not the issue but anyways I cant get my computer to recognize my camera properly. With the lame finepix software installed the camera will only show up in device manager with an error. If i turn it on i get 3 beeps from the USB detection thing and the regular 2 tones upon powering it off.

Several time i've tried installing and unistalling the driver for this thing and it baffles me because before my girlfriend borrowed it on her trip back home it worked just fine. Now before you say anything about her not knowing what she's doing she is in the Art Institute of Atlanta proficiently using her canon d200 with amazing results so i dont think she did anything to it but I'm at a loss.

Is there a place to download simply the driver by itself and not the fluff that comes with it? I'd much rather open the camera myself and tranfer the pics myself than let Finepix Viewer do it.

Any further questions or details I will be checking on this regularly because I'm just fed up with a non-functional camera/computer connection:mad:

slight update:I unistalled all things fuji or finepix then downloaded a few things.

apparently i found just the driver. Runs through the setup rather quickly and I cant tell if it just finishes very fast or exits. Normally install programs ask you to "finish" but not this one

this also doesn't work. Gives me an error talking about how it cant instlal because the orignial software cant be found. Well, this poses a problems because i cant locate my original CD or find a link for the original software it is talking about.

Too much problems and I don't know what cause them but there maybe a round-about way to fixing the problem. It may cost you a little money but it surely save you a lot of time and headache.
One of the most useful tips I pick up from here is to get a card reader. I don't even have to install softwares/drivers from so many cameras to my computer; or any computer that I want to upload images to for that matter. No need to bring along cable, no driver, no CD. Not to mention no wears and tears to the camera socket.
You just plug the image card into the card reader which has USB connection recognised by WinXP.

A card reader, eh? That certainly sounds like a viable option and a way to completely bypass all this crap i'm dealing with. Time to look for a good one at a reasonable price. Any suggestions on which one to get or are they all pretty similar given they read my type of mem card?

I think any card reader that accepts xD or SD cards would be fine. I use the SanDisk ImageMate 12-in-1 (http://www.sandisk.com/Products/Item(1145)-SDDR-89-A15-SanDisk_ImageMate_12in1_ReaderWriter.aspx). If you don't care about CompactFlash compatability, then the cheaper 5-in-1 (http://www.sandisk.com/Products/Item(1151)-SDDR-99-A15-SanDisk_ImageMate_5In1_ReaderWriter.aspx) model should be fine.
