I have been trying out different techniques when using my camera flash in commander mode to fire off my speedlight off camera. I realize how much fun I have been missing out on up to now lol. C&C is welcome.

Great shot Chris. I especially love that hot glow on the right. Lots of mystery in this pic.

Nice pic Chris. BTW, you can even try the commander mode at home. ;)

Wow TNB, I dont know what this Commander Mode is.....but I want one. I hope a certain individual who thinks they are a photographer can see this picture. This is what photography is all about. Exquisite shot.

Thanks. Both Chris and me own a Nikon D200 which allows the built-in flash to trigger a flash unit, such as Nikon's SB600 or SB800, off-camera when in the Commander Mode.

Canon's Speedlights 430 and 530 have wireless capability like the Nikon SB600/800 don't they? On-camera settings, it might be listed as something different than commander mode though.

I think so, though I don't own either yet.

Anyway, that's an outstanding picture of the sky/hills/cacti, and should be hanging from a wall. :)

The Canon ST-E2 is the device which offers wireless triggering of the 420EX/430EX/580EX. It mounts to the hot shoe and must remain line-of-sight with the Speedlights.
