Or how to protect yourself from theft?

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Well, luckily for you, the seven-year-old from across the street (and her mom) was here when I found your post. I asked her where one would go to buy insurance, and she said to get a phone book and look under insurance.
I then asked her what one could do to prevent theft, and she said to lock your doors. I think those are pretty good suggestions.....

If you've exhausted what would be the best way to buy insurance and have narrowed your choice of method, perhaps you should have let everyone know.

If you are lugging it around and have the equipment with you, then it couldn't be theft you are talking about. The most common way the average person prevents *theft* is to lock up their stuff, therefore my friend's answer is the best one you could get for the question you asked (certainly I adhere to it). If you want to learn the difference between theft and other types of larceny, let me know.

Generally, most photographers I know don't bother with insurance. It's expensive and the cost of the insurance is generally more than the cost of replacing items.

Your biggest expense is the camera. The lenses are relatively cheap in comparison. Thus, in a year, your 20k kit will be worth a lot less as the camera will have depreciated terribly.

Personally, I say put indellible marks on the equipment to make sure that if it does get stolen, it can be returned. And don't go to places where it'll get stolen. For example, don't walk around with your camera bag open in the middle of Rome - lol.
