First of all I must say that, Canon products are very expensive in Turkey, for example S5 IS is 650€ (means 900 usd $)
I have used S1 IS for 3 years but because of a CCD problem (manufacturing defect), I give it back to Canon.
Canon offered me free repairing of S1 IS but I didnt accept this offer. This time they told me that, if I give additional 150€ Canon, then can give me a brand new Canon S5 IS .
So I chose S5 IS and now I am looking for accessories for my new S5.
I consider to buy an adapter for just protection and only using filters. But I dont know which one I should buy? 52mm or 58mm? I dont think to use a teleconverter right now but I may buy a teleconverter a few months later. If I buy, which teleconvertor do you advise? Raynox or original Canon teleconvertor?
Many thanks...

I would get the 58mm adapter as that will alow you to get either the Canon or the Raynox in the future.
I had Canon converters for my old A95, and they were decent but not great performers. I have no experience with Raynox.

Hello, congratulations on your new camera.
I am replying assuming that you live in a dusty, sandy part of the world, if this is not true, then most of what i have to say may not work for you.
1. I wouldn't buy a UV Filter, as the lens is UV coated already. These filters darken your pictures and are generally only used to protect the lens which in your case (sand and dust) is a very big need, which leads me to this-
2. Buy a clear filter from Hoya or tiffen or some other quality company. These clear filters are generally cheaper than UV filters and serve to protect your lens from dirt and debris. As the exchange/ import cost seems to be so high, this may be the best solution for you.
3. as for filter size, go with whatever is cheaper. it doesn't really matter too much. 52mm should be cheaper for you, and the raynox telephoto is 52mm as well. if you can find 58 mm filters cheaper for some reason, go with 58mm- the canon telephoto is 58mm. but the 52mm does have one advantage, the lesnse sit closer to your camera lens, this means that the Raynox lens will cause less vignetting. Which means you don't have to zoom in as far to use the lens. This is why after buying the 58mm set up, i decided to scrap it and go with the 52mm.
Also, if you plan on getting a converter, before you decide which size adapter to get, find out how much the raynox DCR 1540 and the Canon converters cost for you. there may be a large price difference that may make you decide to lean to one or the other. Both are excellent lenses and match well with the S5. and both are very well built, so to me the decision comes down to cost.
Goodluck and stop by the "some S3 pics" thread and post some pictures there! anyone with any of the powershot S1,2,3 or 5 posts photos there.

You might also consider the Sony converters in 58mm.
