I keep hearing that the G5 is being discontinued. I've been thinking of purchasing one. Anybody else heard this.

It was announced June of 03, and not that much time has passed...but some stores don't seem to carry it anymore, or at least not on display. For instance, the local BestBuy seems to have ditched it. Yet the Powershot S50, which is if I am not mistaken, older then the G5, is still out and about quite a few places.

Perhaps it's more of a matter of popularity + demand then it being discontinued.

I still use my G2. I have kept up on the newer models though and found reviews that said they came up wanting even though they had a few extra gizmos. The newer slr type though did catch my eye but I haven't read any reviews on it yet. May be the reason they are ditching the G series though.

There goes the rumor that the G5 was the...err, end of the G line.

What a tease :D

Well it sounds like I should wait. Wish I new what was coming from Canon though.

lol, Maybe I should clarify. Maybe it's the reason why retail stores stopped stocking the G series. Then again they probably know what's coming out too. Who knows? As a whole Canon has a great lineup. Even the lower priced A series are great compaired to the compitition I've seen.

:D

What I'm even more interested in, is what Canon's new $1000 dSLR is going to be, if, and when it's coming out.

I've already invested in Nikon, and the D70 is relatively new, but the Rebel has been out and about for a little while now :)

I've seen the new stuff and a $1000 SLR is not one of them. The Rebel isn't dead yet.

Below or above? Or will you get in trouble for that? Come to think of it, the DReb alone is $899...

The Rebel is not being replaced in the next batch of products. There may be another SLR that is though. :)

Oh, no, no, not claiming it anywhere near dead.

I was just wondering if there was anything ' in the works ' or a tiny bit of a suggestion that there are suggestions for something upcoming in the next year or more. Guess not :) Last interesting news I heard was that the Rebel was going to be produced in black, but only in Japan.
