I'm desperate to find if anyone has had this problem before I go and get my camera repaired.

I love my camera! It takes awesome pictures and I print my own on a Canon i960 printer.

Suddenly, it doesn't work anymore. It turns on, the lens opens up, the LCD shows my beginning image, then nothing. A black screen. I thought that the on/off light shows green when ready but it stays orange. It will take a picture, flash goes off and everything, but when I go to review the pic, it's black. I am able to view pictures that are on my memory card.

I have tried every troubleshooting thing in my book and on the Canon site. I am lost without my camera and I don't have tons of money for repair. I am really hoping that someone here can give me some advise

Thanks
Laurie

There was a large Canon recall a few years ago, which is still in effect, for CCD problems which were being fixed even if the camera was out of warranty. Your problems seem to reflect this same problem.

Even tho your S2 doesn't show on the recall, I have read of a few people getting theirs fixed free by Canon anyway and that probably soon the S2 would be added to the formal recall. See the info in the link and call them, they probably will take care of it:

Thank you so much for the information! It sounds exactly like the problem I am having. I will definitely contact Canon tomorrow.
