View Full Version : S5 Automatic Continuous Mode?

Sorry for making a new thread, I could have sworn I saw this answered in the past, (probably was an S3 discussion) but can't find the thread anymore.

is there any way on the S5 to shoot continuously without holding the shutter down?

I ask because touching the camera while on the tripod can introduce some movement, (which is why I use a timer for tripod shots) and I'd also like a creative way to combat the 15 second exposure limit via post processing.

Thanks

Without bracketing or a remote trigger, no.

Custom firmware is also a possibility.

Ah, thanks.

There's no remote trigger, save via USB for the S5, correct?

I am pretty sure you can use the Intervalometer to do this. It's in your manual page 84. Select Intervalometer under the menu, select interval, select number of shots, press the shutter to start the sequence. Your finger will still have to be there to start the sequence, but after that it's automatic.

But they want continuous shooting (1-2fps), which the intervalometer can't do I thought.

The S5 has an Intervalometer?

I don't see one in the manual. I thought that was a feature the S3 had that was taken out of the S5.

Thats the manual I was looking at, not an S5, I guess I assumed S3 as there aren't too many S5s out there yet, sorry.

I don't believe any camera will shoot at burst speed without holding the button down. It really is a shame there aren't any remote shutter releases floating around out there.

All right, thanks for your help guys.

And yea, the USB cable method is still quite slow, not exactly "burst" speeds :p

Oh well.

I still say a modified firmware would do it. But you may as well not wait for someone to implement that as no one else is asking for it.

Hehe, yea. I'm still hopeful that someone will hack the Digic III one day though :D

You're right: no intervalometer on S5 anymore :(

I think can also use the Custom Self-Timer. I am not sure if this works on the S5. But on the S3, you can set the self-timer to auto shoot after 0-10, 15, 20 or 30 sec. Then, you can set it to take multiple shots (although only up to 10 shots). Not sure whether this will be at full burst mode though. AT least you can take 10 shots without holding down the shutter.:)

That should work. I already sold my S3 but I believe the quickest pause between pictures on the custom self time was 2 seconds.

Using the custom timer if you set it for 1 second for 10 shots it is pretty fast really. I like having the intervalometer on my S3. I set my tripod and camera up aimed on my birdfeeder. Set zoom and other settings. Tell it to shoot every minute for say 20-30 minutes. Of course sometimes nothing is there but amazing how many birds can come and go in that time frame.
