View Full Version : Any Bibble users here?
I am thinking of switching to shooting raw (I only started on the dSLR world recently) and running linux I cant use pentax's software (I havent tried it under wine admittedly)
I gave ufraw a shot, it seems to produce pretty good results though I am looking for more capabilities. Bibble is looking good, and they offer a free trial but before I download the trial I thought I would ask here what people think of it. To download the trial you have to put in your name and email etc and I dont like doing that until I am sure I want to give it a shot.
So how does bibble compare for those that have tried it?
sorry I just noticed a software tools section, I had posted it here since I thought there wasnt a relevant section at these forums.

I use the Lite version. I'm a real novice when it comes to processing RAW images, so I like Bibble for its ease of use, and I found the video tutorials on the web site to be quite helpful. It's really the only RAW conversion software that I've ever used so I can't compare it to anything else. I did download the trial version of Capture NX but from the first moment I opened the program, I knew I was going to have to sit down and read the manual before I could even start using it, and I was feeling to lazy to do that. With Bibble, I was able to start using it right away.

Try Picassa. It's pretty decent although you can't do much editing. The Gimp is popular for Linux people.
Thanks sjseto :) would you say the lite version is all you need? I cant tell the difference between the pro and lite other then the workflow functions
Rhys thanks for your reply as well :) I have been using the gimp for years, though it uses a ufraw plugin to deal with raw files and I have already played with ufraw and wasnt a huge fan. I need my hand held a bit more then it does. But for basic image editing and even creation of graphics I just love the gimp

I'm also a Linux user (SuSE 10.1 & Kubuntu), and I downloaded the trial version of Bibble with no problems, only to discover it didn't support my Fuji S9500. So I'm back with UFraw and The GIMP. I agree that it does take a bit of practice to get the best out of The GIMP, and some of Bibble's other features like chromatic aberation correction and noise reduction would be nice. I must email Bibble and ask if they could add support for more cameras - I gather that their RAW conversion is based on the open source DCRAW (like UFraw), so it shouldn't be too hard for them to support everything it does. I think I'd be happy to pay for the full Pro version! :)
Download the Bibble trial and try it, I think you'll be happy (as long as it supports your camera). I don't think you'll get bombarded with spam either - I haven't, despite giving my email address to download.

Right now the Lite version does what I need it to do. It might have been nice to have a more fully featured version of Noise Ninja (which the Pro version has), but so far I'm satisfied with Bibble Lite.
