Well, I decided to buy an S3. I had been waiting for the S5 review, and it sounds good, but it sounds like the S3 is still pretty solid as well.

I ended up buying the last model they had at my local MicroCenter, and they knocked the price down to $209 since it was discontinued and a floor model (although seems to be in great shape). For only $209 I figured I couldn't go wrong at this point getting the S3 over the S5.

This is a nice upgrade for me from my PowerShot A610, as I now have 12x zoom and IS, which I didn't have before, so I'm looking forward to this.

I'm interested in getting a macro and tele lens; it seems like a lot of people have the Raynox DCR-250 at least, so I'm thinking of getting that.

One thing i'm unsure of is what I need to get exactly as a lens adapter. I've seen some people with 52mm adapters and some with 58mm adapter. Is there a particular one that is specifically recommended?

Thanks!

I got my S3 a few months ago and after reading thru the posts of S3 users at: http://www.s3users.com/forum/index.php, the consensus I came away with is that Lensmate has the best adapters. So I got one and it is excellent. I also got the uv filter to protect the lens and the clip on lens cap they sell.

They have a whole explanation of what you need or don't need at their site at: http://www.lensmateonline.com/newsite/S2.html.

But long story short, if you want to add lenses they recommend 58mm adapters, if you just want to use filters, 52mm.

If you go to the Lensmate site, just scroll down and all the information is there.

Great price on the camera, I think you'll like it a lot.

Well it really depends on what kind of lens you want, as they make lenses that can be used on the S3 that at 52 and 58mm. I have the canon 58mm adapter, a polarizer and a lens cap. The reason I bought the 58mm is because I have my eye on the TC-DC58B, which is a 58mm lens. However, the wide angle lens I would get is 52mm. But since an adapter is relatively cheap, all I would have to do is buy a 52, and problem solved.

The bottom line is, keep the lens you want in mind when you pick up your adapter. and be sure to examine your options before you decide on a lens, there are quite a few to choose from!

Awesome, thanks. Also great to know there's a whole forum dedicated just to the S3/S5.
