I recently purchased a Canon Powershot A560.. Is there ANY way to change the default video from AVI to something that isn't such a huge file?? I have a 2GB memory card in my camera, and I only have 4 videos (about 3 minutes each) and they have taken up the whole card.. In addition, I can't even inport them onto my computer because they are so large.. Yea, I get it, AVI is really the best format to take videos in, as they come out so nice and clear, but I'd rather be able to actually watch the videos and take a lot than have one great video.. Please help?!

No, that is the video that the camera produces. I haven't had any problems with transfering 100 Meg + files to my computer, but then I use other tools to get the finished video to a more reasonable size.

But the short (and long) answer is this is what you are stuck with unless you are willing to reduce the frame rate or display size of the video. What sort of errors are you getting when copying the files to your computer? A USB card reader may make this process faster and less painful.

Thanks for your help David.. I'm not so technical savvy, so you'll have to bear with me =)I use a MacBook, so IPhoto is the default program that my camera uploads to. I have already imported pictures and videos from my camera with this memory card onto my computer, and it has worked fine. When I try to import these videos, at first it said that it imported.. although it definitely did not. They weren't in my IPhoto program and when I did a search for them to see if they imported elsewhere, no files showed up. When I tried importing them again (I manually erase from the memory card), it basically just freezes.. so I feel that these files are even too large to even import.. Would that make sense?

MacBook...IPhoto...

I don't know what problems might be with your system, but it is not the Canon or AVI I don't think. The 8+ minute movies I can make in my Canon P&S are max 1 gig. A 3 minute movie would be proportionately less. Never had download issues using (at first) a card reader, then now a built-in reader in the front of my PC...

Hi Kb071307,

I use my iBook to import images. I used to use iPhoto but switched to using ImageBrowser to import them. I haven't had any problems with the video importing from my S2 IS to iPhoto, but if the importing causes your laptop to freeze, the only suggestion I can give you is to transfer them using a memory card reader. You might have to copy it directly from your memory card on to your laptop without using iPhoto. iPhoto is not made to import videos from your camera. Although it would import it in iPhoto, opening the videos will open up Quicktime (unless you have a default player other than Quicktime. Let me know if that works for you.
