I'm trying to decide between the G6 and the s70. I would be using the camera for travel photography, portraits, and outdoor hobbies (hiking, etc). I like to zoom and crop photos, and enlarge them (probably not much larger than an 8 x 10). I have read that the picture quality is better in the G6, although I don't know if this would be noticeable in sizes smaller than 8 x 10. However, it seems like the s70 would be an easier camera in that it is more of a point and click type camera. Also, the wide angle feature might be better for scenic photography. Does anybody have any suggestions? Or any experience with either of these cameras? Thanks in advance for any help.

Basically, if you don't mind the little bit extra size and can afford it, the G6 would be the better choice. And on the wide angle issue, you can always add a conversion lens on the G6 later if you find it insufficient for your needs.

In small prints, a 2-3 MP camera would be more than sufficient.

In fact, if you don't print large sizes, then a 3-5 MP camera would be more than enough and gives better value as the memory consumption is much lower compared to the 7MP ones.

And if size is not an issue, look also at ultrazooms. They give you more zoom range for those faraway shots.

the g6 is probably a more capable camera, but for your purposes, the s70 actually sounds like it might be a better choice. my own experiences with conversion lens are that they're cumbersome and if you don't happen to have it on the camera at the time you may be loathe to go through the process of attaching it. conversely, you can also get a telephoto lens if zoom is important.

but Thon also makes a good point that since you don't intend to make large prints you really might be better off with getting a large zoom camera with less megapixels (although you would still need a conversion lens for wide angle) like the Panasonic FZ line.

If you are serious about picture quality, G6 will not let you down. But if you have outdoor hobbies a lot, I think S70 is suitable for you because its size.

I used to be confused about this topic. But I concerned about picture quality then I bought G6. Now I am very happy with G6.
