It looks as if Canon has changed something about the L and R speakers on the S5, as shown by the pictures in the review. The audio menu has also changed, with some diffferent options...
What I need to know is, from the people who have used it so far, does it still produce a high pitched electronic noise during movies like the S3 did? Also how noisy (speckled) are the movies? Mine have always been terrible in both regards.
If Canon has improved on both of these problems, the S5 may be worth the upgrade.

Thinking about upgrading but...
I wanted to know if Canon S5 has vertical bands problem during shooting movies towards high light sources at night.
I have been using Canon S2 and it has that problem. When there are many disco lights or street lights, it shows many vertical lines in movies though it does not appear in photos.
See my movie http://video.flashband.net/Skate_Competition at the time after 1:58 min, you will see a lot of vertical bands which I do not like.
That would be great if any of S5 users could put some sample movies (shot at night lights) here.
Please let me know.

It may be a Canon 'feature' since my Canon IXUS 750 also displays the bands in the ways you describe, in certain lighting conditions. The IXUS 750 is called something else outside Europe - picture attached so you see what I mean]
I will stick with the IXUS for normal use - fits pocket so well - but want to add a camera with increased zoom and better manual capabilities, so I'm checking out the S5 IS against the Lumix FZ8 and the Olympus SP-550 at the moment. Canon is winning for me partly on video capability and still picture quality, so will probably order it today.
I have a Sony camcorder for times when I need to do something the Canon can't handle well, though the Canon video quality is better IMHO in almost all circumstances.
[update] just ordered the S5 IS
