well i wanted to do something different than bursting balls in the air, somehow this guy was standing exactly where i needed him to. he stayed still for 1 second, and somehow i rested my elbows on the other side of the truck and didn't shake either. pretty much turned out exactly how i wanted it to.

c&c very welcome.

Very nice! I saw some in the fireworks thread that had silhouetted people in front of the bursts, or cityscapes. I agree that it's nice to have some other interest ... much like any "background" shot, really. Both types of shots have their place.

I liked the 1st one and the Last one the most.

Great Idea to include people with the fireworks!

hey thanks alot nick..and everyone else.. i was VERY frustrated when i was shooting these because i was having to use cars as tripods and people were leaning on them and the cars were moving half the time. i was too close to the fireworks being shot in the air so they weren't turning out near as good as i'd like. then when i moved away, there were power lines right in the middle of my shot. people kept walking out in front of me. by the time i left i was pissed at myself.

on top of that, it was a party where i only knew a few people. everyone kept asking me if i was a photographer. it's hard to answer that question because i don't like to exaggerate. i'm like "yea kinda." then they ask me if it's a hobby and i tell em i get paid sometimes. then they start telling me about their friend's dad who's been published in time magazine and stuff like that. it seems like everyone i run into knows someone who's better than me. and i feel them underestimating my ability and i don't like it.

Perhaps the problem is you are underestimating your own ability?
I wouldn't say you're "kinda" a photographer. You're a really good photographer. And you're continuing to learn and grow.

If you really don't know what to say when people ask, hand them a business card, tell them to check out your work and let them decide for themselves - when you're not around. But I think you're selling yourself short.

Very well said Pete.

I don't like feeling underestimated because of my gear. I get a lot of "oh ya, the 1.8 that's a good lens, sure...." I feel like asking to compare missed shots with them.

Adam- I'm going to agree with Peter; your work has really improved to an impressive level over the past year.
