Hi,

being a newbie to digital photography I need to know something about "Live
View".

As far as I know, the two cameras I mentioned above are the only DSLR's on the market with that feature. Am I right?

So, what is the advantage of a "Live View" or, on the other hand, is it a han-
dicap to buy a DSLR without that characteristic?

Hope to hear from experts soon.

yes they are the only ones unless you want to buy a 1DmkIII.

the 2 disadvantages i think is that you see your frame as a 2D image whereas in a viewfinder you see it in 3d. its much easier to focus and compose and get your depth of field right thru a good viewfinder, (well for me anyway). the other disadvantage is that you are seeing the colour of the image thru the representation and rendition on the screen rather than your eyes.

its a pretty cool feature i suppose if you are used to point and shoot cams. although i must say, i'm not a big fan of it personally but then again my wife thinks i'm a moron for using a viewfinder on a point and shoot cam when there is a perfectly good LCD screen to compose from so i guess lots of people must really like it.

regardless you can always switch it off if you don;t like it so no big deal.

cameras with LiveView
Canon 1DMkIII
Olympus E-510
Olympus E-410
Olympus E-330 (out of production but still a few around)
Panasonic L1
Leica Digilux 3

Advantages
for manual focus, as you can digitally zoom the LCD between 7x and 10x (while not zooming the camera), white balance etc is pretty much wysiwyg.

Flip LCD like E-330 are better for shooting from odd angles like back to the wall, or very low/high viewpoints off the hip or overhead shooting (that stuff is handy).

Disadvantages, pretty much cased by Rooz, just to say it adds lag, or a delay for shooting
