What do you all recommend as the best white balance setting for shooting with the D70 in snow?

You might want to try Auto first, and see how they come out. Shooting in snow is challenging sometimes as there can be different shades of snow depending on the angle of the sun/shadows, and how much contrast is in the shot.

I was up on the south rim of The Canyon this weekend, and the snow shots turned out great in auto WB, but there was some contrast from people, trees, and other objects (like the canyon walls) so that the reflection wasn't direct. I kept the aperture closed down (I shoot mostly in aperture priority) to about f8-11 most of the time with the occasional wide open shots when in deep shadow or indoors (i.e. the Tower at Desert View).

Again I would think that auto would be the best WB setting for snow shots.
