Lucky bugger, I went to see him years ago here in Melbourne when he was in a "stage" and it showed, I think he has cleaned himself up a bit since then

Nick - Congratulations man! I wouldn't worry about fast glass though. Bob isn't moving quickly enough these days to blur any shots :D
Seriously though. I didn't know Ottawa put on a bluesfest. Too many summer festivals going on here in Montreal to notice I guess. I'll have to head out and check it out one of these days. I'm a huge blues fan. I got to meet Buddy Guy a few years back. Now there's a guy who can still rip up a stage.

Dylan just played two venues by me last week- one in Bethel Woods, NY (build on the ground of where the Woodstock Concert took place), the other in Long Island.
We were going to the first and plans changed and we couldn't attend. From what I had read Dylan has a very strict no camera policy at his performances- I'd look into this carefully before you go.
The other thing is that both concerts were dismal failures. The newspapers really wanted to print good things about this legend but he didn't give them anything to go on. I think I still have the papers and might be able to scan the reviews for you if you want.
-My next concert is Arlo Guthry in August; nothing like a little Alice's Restaurant during a period where we are fighting war we shouldn't be in. It's a shame this song has become relevant again.

You're probably right about the no photography Rich. I have also read the reviews too. He was here in Ottawa not too long ago, and they didn't have much nice to say either. I read an interview in Rolling Stone last year that really gave me the impression he's only touring for the money.
On a good note there are six stages for me to check out and one of my favorite acts City and Colour is playing one of them. It's just too bad I actually have stuff to do while I'm there, but don't ask it's top secret stuff....;)
Oooo, I just read Buddy Guy is playing the River stage on Monday. Maybe I'll trust you guys, and take some time to check him out.

Nick - You have to go see Buddy Guy. Like Forno says, the guy is an absolute phenomenon. He was taken under the wing of none other than Muddy Waters at a very young age and toured with Muddy for years. Buddy is undoubtedly the greatest living connection to the founders and birth of the Delta blues.
This will give you an idea of exactly who this guy is. I once read an interview with Buddy Guy's son in Guitar magazine. His son related a story about going to his father wanting to learn how to play guitar after being inspired by Prince. Buddy Guy told his son that to understand Prince, he had to study Jimi Hendrix. The son promptly went out and collected everything Hendrix that he could. When he got home he put the first Hendrix tape in the VCR (remember those?) and half way through, Hendrix wanted to show something that he was very proud to have learnt from... you guess it - Buddy Guy.
Forno - Buddy is famous for his walks through the crowd and I have a great story about that. Believe it or not, this is without exaggeration. Buddy was playing here at the Theatre St. Denis about 15 years ago. He started his crowd walk, covering the main floor and then the upper balcony. He came back down to the main floor and headed for the back of the theatre. I was in the front and couldn't understand why everyone was pouring out toward the street. When I finally got to the front of the theatre, I saw that Buddy was continuing to rip on top of the hood of a car that was parked on the street! It was the most incredible musical experience that I have ever witnessed. To top it off, he made his way back to the stage after switching through half a dozen tunes and to finish it all off, he played with a rendition of Hendrix's Voodoo Chile that actually, literally turned his wah-wah peddle into a smoking piece of garbage.
He's getting on in years now and I don't know how active he is on stage any more but he is the personification of blues music and should not be missed. At last check, he was still using a backup guitarist by the name of Scott Holt. This guy alone is worth the price of admission.
Let us know how it goes.

Buddy Guy sounds like it will be a great show. I got to see BB King perform from the 4th row about 4 years ago on his 75th birthday.. what a special concert that was! Although he sat in a chair for the show he could play rock and blues as fast as any musician I've ever heard. He's a heck of a lot more versatile than just the slowhand style blues for which he's most know.

I've seen him several times and if he's anywhere close I'll see go again. The last time was a year or so ago. He still worked the crowd. The first time I saw him was in a small club and when he did his walk thru he stopped at the table next to us, grabbed the woman's hand, and started using her finger for a pick! After a minute or so, he continued on thru the rest of the club. Don't miss him!
I don't think Scott Holt was with him the last time, but he could be back. Scott is a great guitarist in his own right. I think he did some touring out on his own with his band. Don't miss him either.
Sounds like a good event!

Well I didn't even get to see the stage I was so busy with work! I'm not working the Buddy Guy show so I can just relax and enjoy the show.
I have all access passes so apperently I can go where ever I please and take whatever pictures I want!
On a side note there were a ton of photographers with some serious glass. I would feel seriously outclassed with my XT and 50mm 1.8 LOL but I got to see some of their work. They had a booth set up with concert pictures for sale from all the potogs. Some really great stuff, and then some that were, not so good.
